A little bit more about me
Over the last few years I have been working in the NHS with children and young people with chronic medical conditions alongside understandable difficulties with mood and anxiety. I am passionate about helping young people gain an understanding of their difficulties in way that it will allow them achieve their potential and improve their emotional wellbeing. Therapy is complex but I truly believe that helping a young person gain a deep understanding of themselves and how they are feeling, while providing them with the skills to manage, will help, not only now but in their future
I have experience working with a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, phobias, panic, pain/fatigue. I work with young people, as well as families. I know that sometimes we need to find a way in when working with young people and I am used to working with parents alongside the young person, or help parents support the young person. I also have experience of delivering parenting intervention with parents of younger children who are experiencing difficulties with behaviour, or to encourage independence and enhance self-confidence. I have experience working with children and young people who are neurodiverse and I understand the importance of adapting therapy to young people based on their needs.
I specialise in cognitive behavioural therapy, which is a way of thinking about difficulties by looking at the links between how we feel, our thoughts and what we do. I also incorporate into my practice ideas from other models such as systemic therapy, mindfulness, compassion focused therapy and dialectical behavioural therapy, which build upon cognitive behavioural therapy models but extend them with other ways of thinking about difficulties, because we know that not everyone is the same.
